Foundation Seed Services

MCIA’s Foundation Seed Division is dedicated to serving the seed industry through the production of genetically pure Foundation seed.

The Foundation Seed Division is the vital link between the University plant breeders and certified seed producers. Varieties released from plant breeders in small quantities as Breeder seed are increased under close supervision. Extra steps are taken in all areas possible to reach the highest genetic purity and maintain the integrity of each variety. Fields are isolated from other varieties with greater distance. Extra care is taken to clean harvesting and handling equipment. Fields are rogued to remove offtypes and to meet variety descriptions and strict Foundation purity standards. Seed is conditioned using air screen, specific gravity, and spiral cleaners to produce the highest quality.

Seed is available in 50 lb. bags, 2,000 lb. tote bags, or bulk. Foundation seed orders may be placed via the Advance Order Form (see link below). Orders should be placed one year in advance for proper notification. Late orders are subject to seed availability. Deadlines for orders are April 15th of the year before anticipated need. A brief variety description is found in the Seed Directory.

Current Foundation seed prices can be found here.
